Convention Gathers People, Ideas & Inspiration

2016-09-11-reception-02A record number of WICA members attended the 2016 WICA Annual Convention at Bacara Resort in Santa Barbara. California granted the weather needed for outdoor receptions, a golf tournament, and an afternoon of wine tasting. Networking, education, and business meetings were squeezed in there too.

With speaker Mark Matteson at the helm for both the Keynote breakfast and morning Seminar, members learned new professional development strategies in the areas of time management and prioritization. Leaders of the insulation industry on the contracting side, as well as the distribution, fabrication and manufacturing sides, collaborated and discussed industry trends and challenges as a group. Meetings wrapped up with the Annual Business Meeting, where the 2017 budget was passed, new board members were voted in, and plans for the upcoming year were discussed.

Adding Time is a Matter of Habit

By Mark Matteson. WICA 2016 Convention Speaker. Used with permission.

We have all the time there is.

No one has any more or any less of it. Twenty-four hours in a day; 1,440 minutes; 86,400 seconds.

Ever hear someone ask, “Do you have a second?” That usually means an hour. Why don’t we say no? The truth is, we don’t manage time. We manage activities in relation to the sands of time, dropping through our own personal hour glass.

No time? That’s a myth. Here are some other myths about time. I call them ‘Rational-Lies’. See if you are guilty of saying one or more of these excuses. I know I have.

  1. “I am waiting until I have more time.”
  2. “It (planning) doesn’t work for me.”
  3. “I always lose my list.”
  4. “I already took a time manage course (or read the book).”
  5. “You just can’t get organized around here.”
  6. “But there is nothing I can do.”
  7. “People keep interrupting me.”
  8. “Time Management is boring.”
  9. “Isn’t there a danger you will get so organized, you can’t get anything done?”
  10. “I need someone to motivate me.”

Is it time to be honest? Are you operating on a small fraction of your potential? Would you like to learn how to get twice as much done in half the time? If you answered yes, read on… Continue reading

WICA Annual Convention This Month

Next week, members of the Western Insulation Contractors Association will convene in Santa Barbara to meet with industry partners and customers, study activities of counterparts, and examine market trends and opportunities.

Along with networking and social opportunities, attendees will have the opportunity for professional growth with Mark Matteson, this year’s Keynote and Seminar speaker.
